Medic Linda Robertson (SWT) today confirmed to Elaine that our swans "J" & "B" and their 8 cygnets that mysteriously disappeared from Montrose "Curlie" have been traced. All are safe and well and in their new environment. (Location withheld). It would appear that they had been uplifted & relocated without permission / consent. Thanks to Linda for the update on this good news

Seals at a location within Fraserburgh area

I was on my piece of land today with Gizmo, (dog) looking at the phenomenal amount of seaweed - approx 15' wide and from 2' deep with drifts of 6'.
I suddenly noticed approx 6-7 seals on the beach when there was a high tide, so I decided not to disturb them - definitely a 1st for me. I can't get close enough to photograph them unfortunately.

3 common seals released from Deep Sea World last Saturday 13th Oct

Last remaining 3 common seals are to be released this Saturday

A delightful story in a local paper concerning a common seal bearing a yellow tag with its ID Number (withheld for now as is location)
Intrigued I called deep sea world at Queensferry who informed me that they released a Grey seal bearing that tag number and colour (named Whistler). The seal was brought to them in Nov 2006.
The photo is 100 percent a common seal.
Apart from deep sea world and Middlebank is there any other local places tagging seals that are likely to have the same tagging number? and colours.
If not, then records are obviously misleading if greys and commons are being mixed up on release.

It was a grey seal named "Whistler" uplifted from St Monans in Fife by SSPCA New Years Eve 2005. It was transferred from Middlebank April 2006 to go to deep sea world. Deep Sea World released it Nov 2006. It was sighted on Sept 30th 2007 and featured in local paper the week after.

The paper had digitally enhanced the photo (adding the seal in afterwards) adding a common instead of a grey....tut tut!

Many thanks to Alexis for provision of the information.

On another note...

Uplifted grey seal pup from Lewis Oct 11th 2007. The pup has been named "Lewis" and weighed in at 13.5kg. It is doing well in rehab at SSPCA Middlebank, Inverkeithing.

From the SWT.........

"Over the months I have refrained from posting about the under mentioned as requested by those monitoring the situation, however, it is now public knowledge and on numerous websites, therefore feel that I can go ahead and post as we have had sightings coming in from various locals although, I will refrain from mentioning the areas out of respect for those concerned about its future wellbeing."

"September 2007

Saw the arrival of a young white-tailed eagle at Montrose Basin. Identification through Its ‘N’ wing tag apparently identifies it as one of the 15 birds released in Fife earlier this year, which was the beginning of a re-introduction of these huge birds to the east coast of Scotland. I received a call from "GN" on Tuesday saying it was still in the area (location withheld) and was informed by a local that he too had seen it, in flight looking for prey at the same location as "GN"."

Attached picture shows a white tailed eagle for illustration purposes (NOTE: ITS NOT THE EAGLE IN QUESTION)
