August 2007
Sorting out some pics from my holidays I came across this and
thought I'd share it with you.

I thought it was so lifelike, whoever carved it is obviously an
artist with a love of seals because it is so beautifully, and
accurately, carved. You may see it too, if you ever visit Iona!

07/08/07 Johnshaven Sea Fest (11/08/07)
attendance cancelled due to unavailability of Medics. Too
many of us busy otherwise!

Minke Whale (Adult) + Minke Whale (Calf) spotted together 2 miles
offshore from Scurdiness Lighthouse, Ferryden. Feeding with no
confirmed directional heading. Thanks to the local fishermen (you
know who you are) for keeping us posted on their whereabouts.

above.

Minke whale adult and calf still with us. Spotted today in Montrose
Bay at 14.30hrs by Medic Elaine Roft and Volunteer John Roft.
Directional heading at time of sighting (South). Last seen
approximately 2 miles offshore from Scurdie Ness Lighthouse heading
North again! It would appear that the whales are circling the buoys
and creels and feeding. Also spotted, 2 dolphins at the "Ledge"
heading North.

Medic Thom McNeil will attend the Dundee Flower show at Camperdown
Park on Sunday 2nd September, providing advice to interested members
of the public on safety and the do's and don'ts prior to, and during
any time spent at sea. This advice and service falls under the
category "Sea Check" which Thom undertakes as a member of the Wormit
Sailing club.
Medics Paul Horne and Rebecca Chambers were scheduled for seal
training at the BDMLR seal Hospital in Ullapool from 21st - 23rd
September. As most of the pups are now self feeding with some due
for release, Jamie Dyer felt that it would be a wasted Journey for
the Medics. Their training has now been provisionally scheduled for
the grey pupping season (dependant on pups in at the hospital at the
time of medics availability).
