Sally Hessey

It is with my deepest sympathy to Sally’s family and friends that I have to announce that BDMLR Medic Sally Hessey died in a car accident yesterday morning (Tuesday 2nd February 2010). Sally, aged just 23, was at the start of her life and joined BDMLR in 2003 when she attended Vetsim at Nottingham University and trained to be a Marine Mammal Medic. Four years later Sally ended up attending Vetsim and helping to run the course. Sally was an active medics covering various rescues around Edinburgh, Fife, and even up to Aberdeenshire including many seals and even a basking shark. She became the Co-ordinator for Edinburgh and Fife until she moved down to Lincolnshire once qualifying as veterinary surgeon.

I thought these pictures would say a lot more than my humble words. Having met Sally and spoken to her so many times on the phone this news is very sad indeed, she was such an asset to BDMLR and cared so much about the animals she helped. She will be missed by us all. Sally, rest in peace.

Both the co-ordinator and myself got to know Sally rather well and we were both shocked to hear of her death, our sympathies are with her family at this sad time.

Myself and Sally tube feeding a rescued seal at Tay Bridge South car park.
